Burglar Snatches Cash Drawer from Watkinsville Business

Police responded to a burglar alarm and found a window had been smashed at Watkinsville Service Center.

Watkinsville Police last Thursday night shortly after 11 p.m. responded to a burglar alarm at Watkinsville Service Center located 1326 Greensboro Highway. When they arrived, officers saw that a window had been smashed, but the intruder had already fled, according to Chief Lee O'Dillon. The business owner met officers at the scene and determined that a change drawer containing about $30 was taken, O'Dillon noted in a news release. Police dusted the entry area for fingerprints and are reviewing security camera footage from other businesses in the area, he said. In other news, on Tuesday, March 19 at 9:30 a.m., a 1995 BMW 325-I pulled into the path of a northbound 1999 Toyota 4-Runner on Ga.  Highway 15 near J&B Shell. Neither driver was …

Three Arrested on Meth Charges in Oconee

Deputies reportedly found the drug during a traffic stop on US 441 at Lampkin Branch Road. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

A traffic stop Saturday afternoon netted three arrests for methamphetamine possession. According to an incident report, Oconee County Sheriff's deputies pulled over a 2002 Pontiac on US 441 near Lampkin Branch Road just before 4 p.m. on Dec. 22. Prior to a search of the vehicle, a backseat passenger reportedly confessed to deputies "that there were illegal drugs in the vehicle but would not elaborate as to what the drug was, where it was located, or who it belonged to," the deputy wrote. One of the deputies found a bag containing suspected methamphetamine, according to the report, but none of the individuals in the car claimed ownership so all were arrested. Four Arrests Made After Sheriff Spots Suspicious Truckload of Scrap Metal

The metal had been taken from a property on Union Church Road, an area that had previously been targeted by thieves, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Four suspected metal thieves were booked into the Oconee County Jail Tuesday after Sheriff Scott Berry spotted a truck overloaded with scrap metal in an area of the county that had previously been targeted by thieves. According to a news release, Berry was on Union Church Road just before 1 p.m. and saw the truck pulling out of a wooded area.  He initiated a traffic stop and recognized one of the four individuals from other theft and burglary incidents. The property owners confirmed the metal in the truck bed had been taken from their barn and deputies also noticed "fresh" tire tracks near the storage area, the release noted. Update: Deputies Capture Four Suspects in Connection with Possible Burglary

An Oconee County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit assisted in a foot chase early Saturday afternoon.

Updated 9:16 p.m. Oconee County Sheriff's deputies have taken into custody four suspects --three men and a woman-- they believe may be connected to a possible burglary on Virgil Langford Road. Just before noon Saturday, a Nixle alert was issued notifying the public that deputies were in pursuit of a pair of suspects who'd led them on a foot chase in the area of Ga. 316 and Jimmy Daniel Road. By 12:45 p.m., the Sheriff's Office announced four suspects wanted in connection with a possible burglary had been apprehended, one of which had been forced up a tree by a k-9.  Sheriff Scott Berry said the initial incident occurred at a vacant home on Virgil Langford Road. Two Men Arrested At Oconee County Middle School on Charges Related to Theft of ATV

The theft reportedly occurred at a Bishop shop overnight Wednesday to Thursday. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Updated 3:03 p.m. Two men were arrested on the campus of Oconee County Middle School Thursday in connection with the overnight theft of an ATV from Crossroads Consignments, located on Macon Highway in Bishop. Around 7 a.m., a woman called authorities to report having seen some individuals loading an ATV into the bed of a pickup truck in the 1200 block area of Salem Road.  An investigation led deputies to an address in the 1100 block where they found the ATV, said Sgt. Jason Higgins of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. Yellow plastic had been removed and replaced with red plastic from a different, broken ATV also on the property, he said.  A fire burning on the property contained a piece of metal from the stolen ATV and led deputies to …

Arrests Made in Oconee IHOP Brawl Case

Four were charged this week with affray and criminal damage to property stemming from the Oct. 14 fight.

Three men and a woman were booked into the Oconee County Jail this week on charges of affray and criminal damage to property in connection with the early morning brawl at IHOP on Oct. 14. According to witness accounts and surveillance video footage, one group of customers began to insult another group, who were wearing cowboy hats.  The argument then escalated into pushing, hitting, and the throwing of furniture.  The first deputy on the scene just happened to pull into the restaurant's parking lot around 3 a.m. and see the fight in progress, Chief Deputy Lee Weems explained. The deputy called for backup and tried to get the situation under control, but several people fled the scene, Weems said. Authorities were able to identify four …
