Daniel Todd Alexander, 27, of Cartersville, faces an aggravated battery charge under the Family Violence Act for allegedly injuring a woman's face during the 2:30 p.m. Monday incident at the Efficiency Lodge. Guns Confiscated at Metro Area High School - East Cobb Patch Two unloaded guns were confiscated from two students at Wheeler High School without incident on Friday, according to Principal David Chiprany. Elderly Woman Struck by SUV – Canton–Sixes Patch A woman who appeared to be in her late 60s was flown to Grady Hospital in Atlanta after an SUV struck her in Canton's Great Sky subdivision on Aug. 29. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Tim Cavender said the agency, along with the Canton Fire Department, found the woman in the middle of the road. The woman, who has severe head trauma, is listed in critical condition, Cavender said. Police Warn Motorists to Be on the Lookout for Fake Traffic Stops – Woodstock Patch Across metro Atlanta, there have been several reports of fake traffic stops. Two police impersonators were involved in a July theft in Paulding County, according to Dallas-Hiram Patch. Hall County authorities in April arrested a Monroe man who allegedly pretended to be a police officer, according to CBS Atlanta. "In light of recent events in neighboring jurisdictions, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office would like to advise motorists that if they are ever in the process of being pulled over, there are certain steps they can take to reassure them it is a legitimate stop," Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, said in a Monday alert. …

Residents Protest at Family Dollar Construction Site – Cascade Patch "No Family Dollar" was chanted by over a dozen protesters that gathered at the site of the newest Family Dollar store on Friday, Aug. 24, located at Fairburn Road and Benjamin Mays Drive in southwest Atlanta. The stores have been in the forefront of residents' minds lately due to the fact that at least two stores are in the early stages of being erected in the area. Credit Card ‘Skimmer’ Sentenced to Prison – Alpharetta Patch More than 175 customers of a BP station in Alpharetta saw a little justice last week when the man who was convicted of "skimming" their credit and debit card information in 2008 was sentenced to five years in federal prison. Boris Toumasian, 25, of Glendale, Calif., who stole credit and debit card information from BP gas station customers and then used the information to create counterfeit cards, withdraw money from the customers’ bank accounts, and buy electronics, was sentenced Aug. 24 by U.S. District Judge Timothy C. High-Speed Chase Ends with Arrest – Cartersville Patch A  high-speed chase that ended in an Interstate 75 crash started in Cartersville when a Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted an allegedly stolen vehicle. Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a news release the patrol deputy had received a "be on the lookout," or BOLO, alert for a stolen vehicle near Cartersville. Within three minutes, he spotted the allegedly stolen silver Jeep Cherokee in a fitness center parking lot on Collins Drive. As the deputy approached the car, which appeared unoccupied, the driver suddenly sat up and drove away from the parking lot in the Jeep. Two Dead in Quadruple Shooting in Church Parking Lot During Funeral – Stone Mountain Patch Two people have been killed and two others injured in a Thursday afternoon shootout during a funeral in the parking lot of a Stone Mountain-area church. Shortly before 2:30 p.m., shots were fired during a funeral at Victory for the World Church on N. Hairston Road, according to media reports. Road Rage Leads Police from Johns Creek to Alpharetta – Alpharetta Patch A road rage incident involving an off duty police officer that started in Johns Creek ended with two arrests in Alpharetta. The off-duty officer called Johns Creek police shortly before 8 a.m. on May 29 to report that a black Nissan with no rear bumper cover attempted to ram his vehicle while at a BP gas station in Johns Creek. The officer avoided a confrontation, and followed the vehicle, which had two men inside, into Alpharetta when they left the gas station. Bomb Threats in Canton – Canton-Sixes Patch No explosive devices were found during sweeps of the Cherokee County Justice Center and the Historic Courthouse that followed bomb threats received June 5. Just before 11 a.m. Tuesday morning, a man called Atlanta 911 from a pay phone. The person said there was a bomb at the Cherokee County Justice Center.
