Accreditation Team Gives Good Marks to Oconee County Schools

The team wrapped up a four-day visit with a brief overview of its findings on Wednesday.

Oconee County Schools is well on its way to having its accreditation certified for another five years, an AdvancED External Review team determined this week. The group, comprised of six former superintendents and other school leaders from Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Iowa, visited Oconee as part of the process required by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council. Over the course of four days, the team examined data compiled by the system, visited 36 classrooms at six schools and interviewed 279 "stakeholders," including leadership, staff, students and parents. Oconee County Schools Preparing for AdvancED District Accreditation

An external review team will visit Feb. 24-27.

The Oconee County school system is preparing to undergo a review for renewal of AdvancED District Accreditation later this month. Each of the 10 public schools in Oconee County is already fully accredited, meaning "that annually they meet or exceed the accreditation standards that support student achievement," according to a presentation given by Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Claire Miller during a school board work session on Monday.  However, she explained, the time has come for the system to be reviewed for AdvancED District Accreditation, which happens every five years.  The first review took place in 2007.
