A resident of High Shoals Road sprang into action last Saturday when a grease fire lit up in his kitchen. Oconee County Fire Chief Bruce Thaxton said the man used a garden hose to extinguish the flames before the fire department arrived. Firefighters checked the kitchen for hot spots, but found none. Some cabinets and the wall behind the stove were charred. Walton County Sheriff's Office has put out an alert on behalf of the Newton County Sheriff's Office for Jordan Marie Aaron, Alias of Krystal Lee Rhoades, W/F, brown hair, blue eyes, 5’07, 154. Jordan Marie Aaron, 13, was last seen at 9pm Wednesday, May 1 2013. When her parents went in to her room around 6am on the Thursday, May 2, the teen was not in her bed. Her makeup and hair products were also missing. This case is currently being treated as a runaway, though investigators are looking at every angle and very much want to make sure this teen is safe. Police say they found the woman inside when they went to check on the residence Wednesday. An arrest isn't a conviction.
A 26-year-old Watkinsville woman was taken into custody Wednesday after police say they found her inside of a Cedar Drive duplex when they arrived to conduct a burglary investigation. Officers checked on the residence following the arrest of a 30-year-old Colbert man during a traffic stop on New High Shoals Road that morning. Aaron Tyler Poss had been driving a truck that didn't belong to him, Police Chief Lee O'Dillon said. According to O'Dillon, officers located the registered owner of the truck , who is currently being housed in the Madison County Jail. The victim told police that no one should be driving his truck or in possession of his credit cards or any other property belonging to him. Officers then went to the Cedar Drive …

A television and power tools reported stolen from a home on Watson Springs Road Tuesday were recovered in Madison County. An arrest isn't a conviction.
Oconee County Sheriff's investigators have charged a Watkinsville man with the Tuesday burglary of a Watson Springs Road home. Sometime between 7:35 a.m. and 5:10 p.m., a 42-inch flatscreen television was taken from the house and an air compressor, a nail gun kit and a backpack blower were removed from a storage building area. The items are worth about $1,600. According to the incident report, there were no signs of forced entry. Investigators processed the scene and later recovered the stolen property at a location in Madison County. Around 9 p.m., Billy Joe Hanley, 33, of Moreland Drive, was booked into the Oconee County Jail on a burglary charge. Additional details surrounding the arrest weren't released. The suspect was found driving a stolen pickup truck after allegedly having taken the vehicle's keys from inside of a Cedar Drive residence earlier in the day, police say. An arrest isn't a conviction.
Police say a 30-year-old man entered a Watkinsville home Wednesday, took keys to a truck and some credit cards, and drove off in the vehicle. Responding to reports of a possible impaired driver, officers pulled the suspect over on New High Shoals Road near Bishop's Vineyard subdivision around 11:15 a.m., Police Chief Lee O'Dillon explained. The man was unable to answer questions about the truck's owner, he said, and further investigation led police to a duplex on Cedar Drive where it was discovered some items had been taken from the residence. A Harden Hill Road resident returned home from work last Wednesday, May 1, to find that someone had broken a window on the garage door. According to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, the intruder may have attempted to reach inside and unlock the door but it was secured with a double cylinder dead bolt lock. The burglar didn't get inside and nothing outside seemed to be missing, he said. Watkinsville police responded to a total of 31 calls within city limits between April 29 - May 5, 2013. A Winder man is facing charges related to the theft of catalytic converters from Bimmers South Automotive. The Athens Banner-Herald reports Christopher Leon Pope, 38, is also facing charges for similar crimes in Jackson County. Investigator David Stauffacher, with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, told the Banner-Herald Pope confessed to the crimes but hasn't yet been transferred from Jackson County. Bimmers South General Manager Brandon Yarbrough told the newspaper his business has been hit by thieves at least 10 times. Click here to read the full story. Following several recent thefts from homes and storage sheds in communities throughout the county, the Oconee County Sheriff's Office is asking residents to be on the lookout for suspicious individuals, vehicles and activity. According to the sheriff's office, the thefts typically take place on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Anyone who observes suspicious activity is asked to call 911 immediately and attempt to provide a vehicle description and a description of any suspect. Law enforcement encountered some strange activities in Northeast Georgia recently.
> Stay classy, backpage.com: Undercover DeKalb County vice officers used a personal ads website for a recent prostitution arrest in Lithonia. A detective set up a meeting with a woman after finding her ad on backpage.com, which stated, "Sexy, Classy/Insane Lips, $100.00 an hour."
