Watkinsville Man Charged with Drug Offenses Near Athens Elementary School

The 18 year old was taken into custody Wednesday on an outstanding warrant and also faces a slew of drug charges. An arrest isn't a conviction.

An 18-year-old Watkinsville man was arrested on multiple drug offenses Wednesday after a fight broke out over a stolen gun on Fourth Street in Athens around 5:15 p.m., police said. Officers immediately turned Rasheed Armani Freeman of Rankin Road over to Clarke County Sheriff's deputies on an outstanding warrant for contempt of court. After talking with a detective, a resident of the home, which is near Howard B. Stroud Elementary School, gave permission for police to search the residence for the stolen gun. During the search, a backpack containing several pill bottles, several bags of marijuana, a digital scale, and a wallet containing Freeman's identification was found in a closet, according to a news release. Watkinsville Police 'Keep the Peace' During Domestic Dispute

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

Watkinsville Police on Sunday, May 19, were called to a Lawanna Drive home in response to a domestic dispute. Police Chief Lee O'Dillon said one person was gathering some belongings to move out and officers stood by to "keep the peace." In a news release, O'Dillon also noted the following incidents: Watkinsville police responded to a total of 28 calls within city limits between May 13-19, 2013. Heaton Ordered To Keep Ankle Monitor, Remain in Oconee County

A Clarke County judge rejected a request from William Wilson Heaton to remove his ankle monitor and move to Bartow County.

A Clarke County judge has rejected a petition from the man accused of running over Emily Bowman in a hit-and-run accident to remove his ankle monitor and leave Oconee County.  A judge last week denied William Wilson Heaton's request to remove the monitor and move to Bartow County with his grandfather, according to WSBTV. The news agency reported Heaton made the request so he could work in order to pay for his legal expenses. He must remain in Oconee County with his mother. Bowman, a former Kennesaw State University student and Woodstock High School graduate, was hospitalized in critical condition at Athens Regional Medical Center between Feb. 16 and March 8 when she was hit by a pick-up truck as she and a friend walked along Oak Street.  …

Oconee County Sheriff's Office Crime Report

Bike Thefts Reported to Oconee Sheriff's Office and Watkinsville Police

Four bicycles were snatched during the past two weeks.

Several bicycles have disappeared from Oconee County homes lately. Most recently, a woman reported the theft of a $130 bike from the 2000 block of Malcom Bridge Road.  It went missing sometime between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on May 14. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office was also notified of a bike theft on May 9.  A green Mongoose brand bike that had been left near the entrance of an Oak Drive driveway on May 8 wasn't there the following morning. On May 6,  a VFW Drive resident told Watkinsville Police that someone took two children’s bicycles, valued at $200, from inside of his garage. The theft occurred during the daytime hours. Woman Lands in Jail After Threatening to Blow Up Car and Other Strange News

Here are some strange activities police encountered in Northeast Georgia recently.

> Try to follow this one: A Statham woman faces a number of charges after incidents that included her threatening to blow up another woman’s car. The women argued over a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am and whose car it was based on an earlier agreement. During the dispute, the charged woman pulled up her skirt to show the other woman a black handgun — it ended up being an air pistol — and then threatened to blow up the vehicle. A Barrow County deputy later found the woman standing on a front porch with her hands up and the weapon a short distance away. "She stated that she had the gun to put it against her head to threaten false suicide so that he would love her," the deputy wrote in the incident report. Athens Man Accused of Pointing Gun in Oconee County Road Rage Incident

The suspect was jailed Sunday on charges of aggravated assault and DUI. An arrest isn't a conviction.

An Athens man faces a charge of aggravated assault in Oconee County for allegedly pointing a handgun toward two men while driving along Ga. 316 Sunday evening. The two men, one from Madison and one from Watkinsville, told Oconee County Sheriff's deputies that around 6 p.m. they saw a man speeding east in a white Chevy Blazer on Ga. 316 near Pete Dickens Road. According to the incident report, the victims said the Blazer nearly struck them as it passed, and that it weaved in the roadway in front of them. They told deputies they tried to catch up to the vehicle to get the license plate number when "the vehicle braked heavily, slowed down, pulled up next to their vehicle, and the driver pointed small black .380 or 9mm handgun at them while …

Two Motorcyclists Charged Following Wreck in Oconee County

They each face charges of failure to maintain lane, passing in a no passing zone and too fast for conditions.

Charges have been filed against two motorcyclists involved in a wreck in Oconee County on Friday that resulted in multiple injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The accident happened at about 7:15 p.m. on Ga. 53 near Oconee Crossing. According to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened following a chase that originated in Walton County and involved the Walton County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia State Patrol. Walton County Chief Deputy Keith Brooks said his officers did clock the two motorcycles passing through Walton County at a high rate of speed, but called off any chase because of the dangers involved. “They were going so fast that we were never really able to pursue them,” Brooks said. “The deputies did …
