Celebration of Kajal Patel's Life Planned for Sunday

The community is invited to Athens Academy's Spartan Center to remember the teen who touched so many lives.

A community-wide celebration to remember Kajal Patel, the vibrant Athens Academy seventh grader who passed away on Monday, will be held on Sunday, March 3.  The service will take place at 2 p.m. inside the Spartan Center and attendees are asked to wear red in honor of Kajal. Donations in Kajal's memory may be made to the Be A Hero For Kajal fund at Athens First Bank and Trust or sent by mail to PO Box 647, Watkinsville, GA 30677. The fund will be used for programs created in Kajal's name which will aim to develop service and leadership in students, according to the Be a Hero for Kajal Facebook Page.

Athens Academy Student Kajal Patel Loses Battle with Immune Disorder

Students wore red Tuesday in honor of the seventh grader's memory.

The Athens Academy community is grieving the loss of one of its own. After suffering much of her life from an immune disorder, seventh grader Kajal Patel has died.  Headmaster Bob Chambers on Monday told parents about the news in an email. It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Kajal Patel, Class of 2018. Funeral to be Held Wednesday for Athens Man Who Died While Helping Motorist

A memorial service for Evan Andrew Lilly will take place Nov.14 at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home in Norcross.

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Evan Andrew Lilly, 33, of Athens. While aiding a woman whose car broke down in the travel lane on SR 10 Loop late last Thursday night, Lilly was struck and killed by another car. Lilly had worked at the University of Georgia, according according to an online obituary posted by Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home in Norcross.  The family will receive friends at 1 p.m.. Funeral Arrangements Announced for Author Julie L. Cannon

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012.

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Julie L. Cannon, 50, of Watkinsville. Cannon, a beloved local author, died Tuesday at her residence. "We have been blessed in this life to have lived among such an author. Her ability to craft words which express the innermost depths of the soul is unmatched, and her books will nourish the hearts of many for years to come," the obituary states. A memorial service will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Watkinsville First United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. in the in the fellowship hall, according to Lord and Stephens Funeral Homes. Watkinsville Author Julie Cannon Dies in Her Sleep

The death may be related to an injury sustained years ago in a bike accident, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.

The Athens Banner Herald is reporting the death of 50-year-old Julie L. Cannon of Watkinsville. MacGregor Literary agency owner Chip MacGregor told the newspaper the author passed away in her sleep Tuesday. Cannon has authored six novels including "Truelove & Homegrown Tomatoes," "Those Pearly Gates" and, most recently, "Twang." As news of Cannon's death spread to her fans, her Facebook page began filling with messages. One fan wrote, "My heart is breaking over the sudden passing of Julie L Cannon. What a great southern author. If you have never read 'Mater Biscuit, then you should. This book made me laugh and cry. RIP Julie." Funeral arrangements were not immediately available. Funeral Arrangements Announced for UGA Student Quinton Ayers

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at 2 p.m. at NorthPointe Church in Adairsville, Ga.

Funeral arrangements have been announced for UGA student Quinton Million Ayers, 22.  Ayers grew up in Adairsville but most recently resided in Oconee County. Gwinnett County Police said Ayers died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident that likely occurred Saturday morning on Ga. Highway 316 near Harbins Road. His family had reported him missing on Sunday and his body was found in his truck on Labor Day. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 6:30-9 p.m. at at NorthPointe Church, 30 Orchard Road in Adairsville, according to an online obituary posted by R. UGA Professor Conrad Fink is Dead at 80

The legendary journalism teacher and former AP executive dies from prostate cancer.

Conrad Fink, who joined the faculty of the Grady College in 1983, died Saturday after a recurrence of prostate cancer. He was 80 and had worked as a foreign correspondent and executive with the Associated Press before joining the UGA faculty.  "He put up a good battle with cancer for many many years, he kept himself in as  good shape as he could. He told me he was going to teach absolutely for as long as he could, and I guess he did," said Al Hester, a retired Grady professor. He first met Fink in Dallas, Texas, when Fink was working for the AP. "He did a lot of good things for many students and was really was popular with a lot of them," Hester said.
