"Eastern Wolfers, LLC Has a Great Run on the Cattle Farm This Year"

As a small business owner I believe it is important to celebrate our successes, reflect back on the job we did, and see what we have learned and can do differently to become more efficient and productive. I believe we should learn to cut costs where we can, as much as we can, so we can minimize costs that we have to pass on to our customers. Nothing is Static. Parts of our business models must change and grow for us to continue to be competitive in the Market. We must be adaptable and flexible. In other words, we are a "Work in Progress". Anyone with their own business understands that the General Public doesn't see the unpaid countless hours spent behind the scenes cleaning up after one job and prepping for the next adventure. At least that is the way it is in my Business as a State Certified Nuisance Wildlife Trapper.

This year Eastern Wolfers Professional Wildlife Control, LLC. had it's best year yet in removing Coyotes from the Cattle Farm here in Walton County. After reflecting on the setups and results from the last two calf birthing seasons, I decided to change tactics. I did this because the trails the coyotes use run the perimeter of the pastures all of the way around the tract. Certain prominent land features guide the predators thru narrow areas that they must move thru to access the rest of the Farm. This change gave ME the Tactical Advantage and worked very well. The best funnel location on the property is where 7 trails come together at the corner of a pond dam. Some trails go around one side of the pond and other trails traverse the opposite side of the pond. After setting many more traps all over the property in the two past seasons, I gang set these funnels so that any coyote coming down a trail would encounter my hardware. Due to unforeseen circumstances I also got started late this year. Instead of beginning in January, I was unable to get onto the tract until April. Nevertheless, it paid off handsomely. I don't remember how many males I took but about a month ago, there was a mass movement of females on the property as they roamed looking for a male coyote to breed with. I took 5 females in about a two week period. Two were pregnant with pups and one female coyote was already nursing pups. Female Coyotes typically have from 5-8 pups, once per year, per litter. Using a conservative estimate of 5 pups, I have taken AT LEAST 20 coyotes off of the Farm this short season. I also took another mating pair off of a 200 acre tract nearby. In the last 3 breeding seasons I've trapped the Farm, I've removed roughly a total of as low as 32 coyotes and maybe as high as 38 off of this one tract. And I am not counting the pups the other females I caught the last two seasons would have had. I trapped early those two seasons and removed them before they became pregnant. The way this property is setup is a major travel way for any animal moving thru this region. Any animal wanting to move thru the Farm is funneled into a narrow area surrounded by a huge slough on one side and wide open pastures on the other. To remain in cover, as most Predators and Prey do, they must move thru a wooded area that ranges from 100yards wide in some places down to 20 yards wide at the pond dam and one other area. Once a Trapper discovers the major funnels on a piece of property, they become productive areas to set traps in year after year.
