Lera Lynn, Hobos and Shrek--Just Part of What's Happening This Weekend

Friday, January 10th
Eating at Marti's at Midday on Prince today will help the re-election campaign of state Democratic Representative Spencer Frye. Ten percent of the proceeds will go to Spencer.

There's a meeting at 6pm at Campus View Church of Christ on the Common Core. Local experts will be talking. Everyone is invited to learn about the initiative.

There's a launch party for Clela Reed's Poetry Memoir Book, "The Hero of the Revolution" at Avid Bookshop at 6:30pm.

After the meeting, you can head to the Oconee County Civic Center for the Oconee Youth Playhouse's production of "Shrek." The show starts at 7pm.

Lera Lynn is playing at the Melting Point, beginning at 7:30pm. This is a family friendly performance and a chance to hear a great musician. 

At Hendershot's Coffee House, the Hobohemians are playing, starting at 8pm. 

The Infamous Stringdusters play at the Georgia Theatre on both Friday and Saturday at 7pm. 

Saturday, January 11th
The Athens Area Democrats are holding a breakfast at 9am at Brett's American on Atlanta Highway.

The OCAF (Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation) Story -- The First 20 Years. Is an exhibit that opens at 10am at the foundation center on School Street. Come celebrate this amazing non-profit!

The 40 Watt has Big Morgan, with Wieuca, Padre and Evan Tyor, in a show that starts at 9pm. 

Sunday, January 12th
At 2pm, you have a chance to see "LIFE--the Griot," a locally created documentary about Lemuel LaRoche, a local resident and champion of chess. He seeks to help young black men and boys navigate the sometimes treacherous waters of their lives. The film is not to be missed, and neither is its hero.

At 3pm, the Athens Clarke County Library presents the opening lecture in the series  "Muslim World View: A Discussion about Muslim Perspectives and Intentions."
