Open House for Farmington Fire Station Planned for Sunday

The new station was built this year with 2009 SPLOST funds.

Oconee County Fire and Rescue will celebrate the newly-built Farmington Fire Station with an open house this Sunday, Oct. 13.

From 2- 4 p.m., firefighters and medical volunteers will give tours of the new station, which is located at 2590 Old Farmington Road.   Oconee County Commissioners will also hold a ribbon cutting during that time, and refreshments and hot dogs will be served.

The new station, built this year with 2009 SPLOST funds,  replaces an old fire station on Salem Road that cannot accommodate future new and larger fire apparatus, according to a news release from Fire Chief Bruce Thaxton.

"The new station was built for the future, and will also provide bunk space for personnel that may stay at the station overnight," the news release stated. It is expected to meet the fire and medical emergency needs of the southern area of the county for the next 50 years.
