Zumba-thon Raises Hundreds for Project Safe

Friday's event at Buffalo's was sponsored by Team 6 of Dancing with the Athens Stars 2012.

What do these words and phrases have in common? Dancing with the Athens Stars, fundraiser, Team 6, Zumba, , Shearon, Bacso, Buffalo's Cafe, weight loss and great fun?

About 60 dancers moved to the music under the direction of dance instructor Tania Mendoza on the dance floor of the Georgia Room at Buffalo's on Friday night. She took them through three music pieces non-stop - exercise for excess weight anywhere on the body. Suggested donation was $10 for the privilege.

Dave Shearon and Elisso Bacso, make up dance Team 6 from the 10 teams organized for the 2012 Dancing with the Athens Stars benefit to be held on April 1. Dave , the owner of , is the only dancer from Oconee County, and the two already claim the People's Choice Award from $1 votes from friends, family and the general public. Go to http://www.dwasteam6.tumbir.com for more information and to cast your $1 vote.

So, what do they have in common? They all came together for Project Safe, an organization for the protection of battered women. The Zuba-thon made about $600 Friday. Update on Monday: $757 was raised.

Imagine that! A mockery of a representative calling an issue a mockery! How much of his outrageousRead More salary and benefit package is he willing to give up? And what he calls fact is seriously distorted information. Good leaders don't run and hide from an issue and then blame others for their shortcomings... I realize good leaders are hard to find.... but, why do we continue to tolerate mediocrity? A vacant seat would be just as effective as this congressman... actually, as I think about it, probably more effective.
