Volunteer for the 9-11 Day of Service and Remembrance

HandsOn Northeast Georgia has organized four projects in commemoration of September 11, including the beautification of the 9-11 memorial and flagpole at an Oconee County, Ga. fire department.

The following is an edited news release from the Athens Community Council on Aging:

In 2009, Congress designated September 11th as a "National Day of Service and Remembrance" to honor the victims, survivors, and families of 9/11 through service-oriented programs.

“I will” became the mantra – a call to action to inspire Americans to remember by doing, to focus on the sense of solidarity that united us after the tragedy, and to turn a day of loss into a collective of positive acts.  People across the country may participate not only through volunteerism and service but by simple, personal acts of good – as easy as a hug or as dedicated as serving a meal at a shelter.
