Multiple Benefits Planned This Weekend For Wounded Marine Michael Boucher

A softball tournament, motorcycle ride and after party, and golf tournament will raise money for Oconee County's Lance Cpl. Michael Boucher.

The Oconee and Athens-Clarke communities are combining forces over the next couple of days to raise money for Purple Heart recipient June 12 while on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Money raised so far has been used to renovate Michael's parents' home, making it accessible for him when he returns, said family friend Gina Taylor, who is also one of the events' organizers.

Michael is recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and hopes to return home for a long weekend in November, but won't be able to return permanently until May or June, she said.
