Athens Area Doctors Join Hands to Give Back to the Community

One of a kind Health Check-Up Fair coming to you in Athens on June 16 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. All made possible by Athens area medical doctors joining hands to "Pay it forward" .....

“Paying It Forward” is a noble cause that is bringing together different area Doctors to participate in one of a kind annual "Health Check-up" fair organized by the Indian Association of Greater Athens (IAGA), a non-profit organization.

IAGA founder members are Nina Desai, Sunita Singh, Atul Shah and Charlie-Kashmira Udhwani. They have been brain storming about doing events under IAGA umbrella that is not just cultural in nature but also involves giving back to the community that they live, work and hold close to their hearts. During one of her conversations, Nina Desai was able to get support from Dr. Ram K. Reddy, (Medical Director, Reddy Medical Group, Reddy Urgent Care and Yuva Medical Spa) to get this event off the ground. Area Doctors with affiliations from all major Hospitals in town along with some private medical practitioners joined hands for this noble cause. As Sunita Singh, V. P, Business Development, Reddy & Associates and IAGA founding Board member notes, "This was the beginning of the grand, one of a kind Health Check-Up Fair in Athens"!

This is IAGA's third annual Health Check-Up Fair. Last year this event was supported by: Dr. Ram K. Reddy (Internist), Dr. Rajiv Desai (OBGYN), Dr. David Allen (Urologist), Dr. Amit Shah (Cardiologist), Dr. Ranjit Mathew (Gastroenterologist), Dr. Karan Jhulka (Pulmonologist), Dr. Kaushik Shah (OBGYN), Dr. Srilakshmi Rebala (Nephrologists), Dr. G'Anne Thomas (Audiologist). This year Dr. Jennifer Jacobs (Podiatrist), Kali Kuzniak (Nutritionist) and Sabina Banu (Ultra Sound) will also join the Health Checkup volunteer team. Prior year's attendees included those who didn't have insurance, those who had high deductible on their insurance, those tight on their finances or those so tight on their time that they were unable to see their primary care providers during weekdays for their annual checkup or blood work.

Attendees of this year’s Health-Checkup can expect the opportunity to visit any of the participating medical specialists for a free consultation. IAGA is very thankful to Regional Lab Outreach for helping out with all the blood work. The rates are heavily discounted for this cause. Blood work ranges from $5 to $15. A 12 hour fasting will be required for all blood work. Attendees will also have the option of getting Pap Smears for $25. Cash payment will be required for any optional blood work that is requested. Reddy Urgent Care is also offering free screenings for Stroke test, EKG, Bone Density and Body Composition tests during the Health Checkup Fair.

Health Checkup will be held on Saturday June 16, 2012 from 8am to 11am at Reddy Urgent Care, 1060 Dowdy Rd, Athens GA (Opposite Oconee Wal-Mart behind Ryan's in the tall Medical Arts Center building).
