Track Athletes Congratulated on Achievements

North Oconee High School and Malcom Bridge Middle School track teams were recognized at a school board meeting this week.

The following students were recognized by the Oconee County Board of Education on Monday for their recent sports achievements:

The North Oconee Boys Track team finished 2nd overall in the state.

Tripp Hurt - State Champion in the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run
Olivia Pigg - State Champion in the 1600 meter run and State Runner-Up in the 800 meter run
Ian Wraga - State Runner-Up in the 800 meter run and the 1600 meter run
Isaac Toney - State Runner-Up in the Pole Vault (12'6")
Sydney Rodkey - State Runner-Up in the Pole Vault (11'6.5")

In other news, North Oconee won the 8AA All Region Competition Award for the fifth consecutive year. They won the region in eight different sports and placed second in four events, including Literary and the One Act Play. There are 19 different events.

Teams placed first in a statewide meet held by an independent agency and took home first in their region.

Top finishers: Cole Thornton placed first in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs (both in state record time), Mary Terry placed first in the high jump, Kevon Grace placed second in the long jump, and Caroline Brown placed second in the long jump.

Team members:  Matthew Alford, Kawon Bryant, Caroline Brown, Kevon Grace, Jeremy Kittle, Conner Krieger, Andrew Quint, Christian Rivera, Mary Terry and Cole Thornton.
