Sports Camps Encourage Kids to Stay Active During Summer Months

There are still a number of openings for upcoming sports camps offered by the Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department.

June 20-23:  Soccer Camp

Whether they want to be the next David Beckham or Mia Ham, or just want to have a great time, boys and girls ages 5-15 can participate in a soccer camp from June 20-23 at .  Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to noon and there will be an evening session June 21 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Participants will learn the skills and fundamentals of soccer and will have a chance to use those skills through game situations.  The camp will be directed by Coach Connors of Oconee County High School. The cost is $100 and there are currently 34 spots open.

June 27-30:  Lacrosse Camp

Kids ages 10-17 can learn the game of lacrosse at a camp to be held June 27-30 at Herman C. Michael Park.  Participants will learn the fundamentals  and rules of lacrosse.  If a camper doesn't have his  or her own equipment, it will be provided.  The camp will be directed by Coach Mike Hook.  The cost is $80 and there are currently 24 spots open.

June 20-22:  Cheerleading Camp

Girls ages 5-12 interested in cheerleading can take part in a cheerleading camp June 20-22 at .  Participants will learn chants, cheers, movements and dance.  There will also be arts and crafts as well.  The camp will be directed by Coach Melton.  The cost is $60 and there are currently 40 spots open.  

July 11-14:  Volleyball Camp at NOHS

Girls ages 9-15 are encouraged to take part in a volleyball camp to be held July 11-14 from 9 a.m. to noon at North Oconee High School.  The campers will learn the skills and fundamentals of Volleyball and will try to implement those skills in team play situations.  The camp instructor will be Coach Vadeboncoeur.  The cost is $80 and there are currently 25 spots open.  

July 18-21:  Volleyball Camp at OCHS

will hold a volleyball camp July 18-21 from 9 a.m. to noon for girls ages 9-15. Participants will learn the skills and fundamentals of Volleyball and will develop those skills through team play.  The Camp Director will be Coach Legall.  The cost is $80 and there are currently 35 spots open.

June 27-30:  Coed Basketball Camp

Both boys and girls ages 7-15 can learn the game of basketball at a camp  at Oconee County High School June 27-30 from 9 a.m. to noon.  Campers will learn the fundamentals and skills of the game of basketball through game situations and drills.  The camp director will be Coach Michael Youngblood.  The cost is $80 and there are currently 18 spots open.

June 27-30:  Girls Basketball Camp

Girls ages 7-15 are encouraged to participate in a basketball camp to be held June 27-30 at North Oconee High School from 9 a.m. to noon.  Campers will learn the skills and fundamentals needed to be a good basketball player.  The camp will be directed by Coach Byrom.  The cost is $80 and there are currently 33 spots open.
