OCHS Tennis Sweeps Franklin County

Boys Stay Undefeated in Region 8-AAA, while Girls get First Region Win

The OCHS Warrior tennis teams swept both girls and boys matches Thursday afternoon at home against the Franklin County Lion netters, on a warm and sunny day that weather was finally NOT a big factor. The boys coasted to a fairly easy 5-0 shutout win over the Lions, while the girls had to stage a bit of a comeback to claim a 3-2 region win.

Down 0-2 to the feisty Lady Lions, Dan Gruetter's Lady Warriors fought back to win a big match in singles, where the always dependable Katy Kane fought off a challenge at #2 to win 6-1, 6-3 and get OCHS on the board. Several minutes later, Ivy Do and Megan Morris, playing 2 doubles, brought the match even with a solid 6-3, 6-2 win. That brought the focus back to court one, where Jordan England was once again in a mini-marathon match that included a particularly long first set, which she finally closed out 6-3. England then breezed in the second set 6-0, to secure the Lady Warriors first region win. Their overall record improved to 4-3, 1-1 in region play.

The Warrior men made short work of the Lions, winning four of five matches via shutout scores. Will McDonald and Drew Horsley both won 6-0, 6-0 at #1 and 2 respectively, while the #1 and #2 doubles teams of Zach Miner/Dan Madden and Hunter Pritchard/Chandler Shields also scored 6-0, 6-0 wins. Mitchell Graves then gave the Warriors a 5-0 shutout win at #3 singles, where he thwarted a second set comeback by his opponent and generated a comeback of his own, to win in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. The win gives the men their third straight win and improved their season record to 5-3, while they stayed unbeaten in region 8-AAA play at 3-0.
