North Oconee Sweeps Jackson County

Tuesday was the final regular season tennis match for the Titans.

The Titans lost only two games in five matches Tuesday as they manhandled region opponent Jackson County 5-0.  At No. 1 singles Ray Donovan blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0.  Senior Spencer Powell won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, and Kerry Nozum won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.  At No. 1 doubles, the Titan duo of Seth Taylor and Jeff Bautista dispatched their Panther opponents 6-0, 6-0.  Stevie Hemmerlien and Chris Saucier closed out the match, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.  With the win the Titans finished the regular season at 11-4 overall and 5-0 in Region 8AA.     

On the girls’ side, the Lady Titans won at every position except at No. 1 singles where Becca Bruning lost a hard-fought battle in split sets  4-6, 6-3, 7-10 (tiebreak).  At No. 2 Amber Hudson blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0, and senior Sarah Rogers prevailed at No. 3, 6-3, 6-0.  In doubles, Lady Titan seniors Casey Blanton and Kathleen Greenway made quick work at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0.  At No. 2, Lana Livesay and Tori Vadeboncoeur outlasted their Lady Panther opponents 6-4, 6-4.  The Lady Titans end the regular season at 12-3 and 5-0 in region play.

After the match, Titan head coach Candy Vadeboncoeur and principal Barry Lollis recognized the four seniors who played their last regular season matches.   Sarah Rogers, Spencer Powell, Kathleen Greenway, and Casey Blanton were each presented with a gift.    

Up next for Titan tennis is hosting the Region 8AA tournament on April 14.
