March 3:

The North Oconee boys tennis team beat Jefferson on March 3 to remain unbeaten in region 8-AA.  The Titans swept doubles play and won at No. 3 singles for a 3-2 victory.  With the win, North Oconee improves to 6-0 and 2-0 in the region.

In singles, Jefferson’s Zach Bost defeated Ray Donovan 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 and Blair Buffington bested Seth Taylor 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.  That’s when things turned around for the Titans.  At No. 3, North Oconee’s Spencer Powell topped Ben Daniel 7-5, 6-2.  In doubles play, Jeff Bautista and Kerry Nozum beat Brandon Clabo and Jordan Tyler 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 for the Titans, and David Sloan and Stevie Hemerlein blanked the Dragons’ duo of Austin Pratt and Andrew James 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.

The North Oconee girls tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season with a win at Jefferson last Thursday.  The Lady Titans won at every position but No. 3 singles as they defeated the Lady Dragons 4-1.  North Oconee’s girls are now 2-0 in Region 8-AA.

In singles, Becca Bruning beat Bell Blankenship 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 and Amber Hudson defeated Taylor Bost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.  At No. 3 singles, Jefferson’s Tristan McGarity downed Sarah Rogers 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles, Kathleen Greenway and Casey Blanton outlasted Chelsea Runkel and Amanda Burgamy 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, and Lana Livesay and Cammi Shaffer bested Grace Main and Savannah Snap 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.

March 8:

The North Oconee boys and girls tennis teams swept Region 8-AA opponent Hart Co. Tuesday. 

The Titan boys improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the region with a sweep of the Bulldogs.  Seth Taylor, Ray Donovan and Spencer Powell won at #1, #2 and #3 singles by the identical scores of 6-0, 6-0.  In doubles action, Kerry Nozum and Jeff Bautista teamed up at #1 for a 6-0, 6-3 victory.  The tandem of Chris Saucier and David Sloan won 6-1, 6-0 at #2 doubles.

The Lady Titans improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the region with the win over the Lady Bulldogs.  At #1 singles, Becca Bruning blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0.  At #2, Amber Hudson won 6-0, 6-1, and Sarah Rogers took #3 singles 6-0, 6-0.  In doubles, Kathleen Greenway and Casey Blanton won at #1 6-2, 6-1.  Tori Vadeboncoeur partnered with Lana Livesay to take #2 doubles in a 6-1, 3-6, 10-2.

Up next for the Titans is the Granger Invitational in LaGrange March 11-12.  The girls play Milton High Friday at 3 p.m., and the boys will face North Gwinnett High also at 3 p.m.

The North Oconee High School boys track team took first place in a five-way meet against Madison County, Flowery Branch, , and Athens Chrisitan on March 8 at NOHS.  The girls team placed second.  See the individual results.
