Lady Warriors Advance to 2nd Round of AAA State Tourney, Season Ends for Boys

The 19-2 Lady Warriors tennis team will host 2nd-ranked St. Pius X next Tuesday.

The girls tennis team advanced to the second round of the state tennis tournament by getting past Shaw High School on Wednesday.  The 3rd-ranked Lady Warriors dispatched the Lady Raiders 4-1 at the OCHS home courts in the first round of the Class AAA state tournament.  Senior  won at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1 and Caroline McElhannon downed her opponent 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.  In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Katy Kane and Caroline Guest clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.  The No. 2 doubles tandem of Macy Byrd and Lizzie Coram came back to win their match 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.  The 19-2 Lady Warriors will host 2nd-ranked St. Pius X next Tuesday.   

The OCHS boys hopes for a state AAA title were dashed Tuesday when the visiting Columbus High School Blue Devils eliminated the Warriors 3-2.  The 8th-ranked Warriors got wins from Will McDonald at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-4, and Sam Ondo and Zach Minor at No. 1 doubles 7-5, 6-1.  OCHS ended the year with an overall record of 17-5.
