Friday Night Lights: Undefeated Spartans Look for Another Win

Regular season ends tonight for most GHSA teams. Some teams looking ahead to playoffs as the rest make plans for next year.

The playoffs loom large in this region tonight. The George Walton Academy Bulldogs (6-3, 3-2) take on the Prince Avenue Christian School Wolverines (8-1, 4-1) tonight. Both teams won big last week and looking to finish the regular season strong.

The showdown in Athens pits the Undefeated Athens Academy Spartans (9-0,6-0) against the Athens Christian Academy Eagles (4-5, 3-2). The Eagles lost 3-42 to George Walton last week, while The Spartans crushed Hebron 44-20. Athens is all but assured home field advantage in the coming post season opener, and barring a major upset, look to finish the season undefeated.

It would take a major upset indeed for the Social Circle Redskins to finish the season with a win under their belt. Tonight, they take on the Washington-Wilkes Tigers (8-1, 5-1). Last week, the frustration mounted as the Skins lost their 9th game of the season to Union County. The hapless Redskins wound up getting blanked, again, 0-31. This will, mercifully, be the final game of their season.

The Loganville Red Devils will finish their season on the road in Conyers tonight against the Salem Seminoles. Last week, the Devils rocked the region, and the state, by upsetting the high-ranked Gainseville Red Elephants 46-41. Their 3-6, 1-5 season will not qualify them for a playoff bid regardless of tonight's outcome.

The Clarke Central Gladiators welcome the Cedar Shoals Jaguars in what will be the final game of the season for both teams. The Glads beat Winder-Barrow 38-7 last week, the Jags lost to Salem, 14-17.

Winder-barrow's Bulldogs (1-8, 1-6) welcome Apalachee's Wildcats (4-5, 2-4) to their side of Hwy 316 tonight in what will be the final game for both teams. Last week, both teams lost, for the Doggs it was 7-38 to Clarke Central, for the Cats it was a shutout to Heritage, 0-42
