Athens Academy Receives "Strength of America" Award

The National Strength and Conditioning Association recognized 9 high schools that have represented a "gold standard in strength and conditioning programs."

is one of only 9 high schools that recently received the 2011 National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) “Strength of America” award.

Conditioning Coach Bryan Pulliam was recognized at the NSCA’s 34th National Conference Awards Banquet held July 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

High schools are measured in four major categories: Supervision, Education, Program, and Facilities, and the award represents a "gold standard in strength and conditioning programs," according to a news release.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by such respected organizations,” Pulliam said in a released statement. 

Pulliam credits Headmaster Bob Chambers for his foresight in creating a full-time strength and conditioning position “when it was virtually unheard of in the high school setting.”

Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross was the other Georgia school that was recognize.d Other 2011 winners were:

  • Castle View High School in Castle Rock, Colorado
  • Charlotte Country Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross, Georgia
  • Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor, Illinois
  • Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  • Muskego High School in  Muskego, Wisconsin
  • Widefield High School in  Colorado Springs, Colorado
  • School of Human Movement Studies-Western Region Academy of Sport in Bathurst, Australia
