Anthony DiFrancesco: An Exemplary Player on the Field and in the Classroom

Anthony DiFrancesco, a junior forward on the North Oconee High School varsity boys' soccer team, is a standout player.

The varsity boys' soccer team has gotten off to a great start this season. The Titans are currently 6-1-2 overall and 3-0 in region play. Anthony DiFrancesco, a junior forward on the squad, has been a big reason for the team's success.

Born in Gibsonville, NC in 1993 to Art and Marie DiFrancesco, Anthony developed a love for soccer at a young age.

"He chose soccer over ice hockey," Art DiFrancesco recalls. "Soccer is all he does."

When the family moved to Georgia, Anthony began to hone his skills in the North Atlanta Soccer Association, where he currently plays club soccer for the NASA Elite U-17 Team.

"We've gone all over the country for club tournaments: San Diego, Florida, North Carolina," Art DiFrancesco said.

When watching Anthony play, one can tell that the club experience and competition has made him into a solid player. In 7 games for North Oconee, DiFrancesco has scored 14 goals.

"Anthony has really come into his own this year. He is an extremely unselfish player and is also very coachable," North Oconee Head Coach David Van Wyk said. "His production this year is a direct result of his recognition of his particular skill set and playing the sort of game that he is best at. We are very proud of him."

Unfortunately, Anthony suffered a second degree ankle sprain in the Titans' 1-1 draw with Heritage last week, but might be ready to play next Monday when the Titans clash with cross-county rivals the Warriors.

Anthony is also getting it done in the classroom. He currently has close to a 3.6 GPA.

"Anthony is interested in playing soccer in college, but whether he does or not, we are glad that he is having fun and getting to play with his friends,"Art DiFrancesco said.

Anthony's sister, Natalie DiFrancesco, is a member of the North Oconee High School varsity girls' soccer team. The Lady Titans are currently 5-5 on the season and 3-0 in region play.
