School Board Readies to Release Names of Superintendent Finalists

It's possible the announcement could come during a Monday Board meeting.

Six months following that he will retire as superintendent at the end of the school year, the Oconee County Board of Education prepares to announce finalists for his replacement.

The Board in October to assist in the search and members of the community were asked to weigh in .

By the early January deadline, from submitted applications and, in February, six were brought before the Board during two rounds of interviews, Chairman David Weeks said.

The agenda for Monday's 5 p.m. Board work session lists "Superintendent Finalist(s)" under "Presentations and Discussions."

Under the subcategory, the agenda notes that according to the Open Records Act, "at least 14 calendar days prior to the meeting at which final action or vote is to be taken on the position, the agency shall release all documents which came into its possession with respect to as many as three persons under consideration whom the agency has determined to be the best qualified for the position and from among whom the agency intends to fill the position."

The Board's next regular meeting is scheduled for March 12.Β  If the Board makes an announcement of finalists on Monday, they could call a special meeting for .
