Renovations to Oconee County High Warrior Stadium to Begin This Summer

Renovated restrooms and concession stands will greet Oconee County High School football fans when they gather at the stadium this fall to cheer on the Warriors.

At a called meeting this week, the Oconee County Board of Education approved Parrish Construction Group as the firm that will serve as the construction manager at risk for the summertime project.

Parrish's bid was chosen from a pool of seven that were graded by a group of school officials and a construction owner representative taking into account five qualifications: firm qualifications and capability, firm experience and past performances, project personnel qualifications, project schedule, and fee. 

It'll be the first time the Perry-based construction group will do work for Oconee County Schools, but Assistant Superintendent for Operations and Student Services Mark Channell assured board members that Parrish has successfully completed similar projects for other districts. (See video clip.)

"Even though we've not used them before, they have a very strong reputation," he said. "They've built a lot of K-12 buildings."

The total construction cost, excluding architectural fees, cannot exceed $900,000.

The stadium renovations were divided into two phases because the school system has available $1.2 million in Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax revenue, which is sufficient to complete Phase 1, but not enough to fund the more costly field house renovations that will take place during Phase 2 in summer 2014, he explained.

"Instead of waiting and doing everything next summer, we're trying to get something going this summer, so people can see that we are working on this," Channell told Oconee Patch.
