Oconee County Schools Name Hammond Federal Programs Director

Shannon Hammond to assume new role effective July 10.

Shannon Hammond was recently appointed as the new federal programs director for the Oconee County School System. The appointment became official at the regular meeting of the Oconee County School Board on July 2. While serving as federal programs director, Hammond will oversee all federally-funded title programs, including Title I-A, Title I-C, Title II-A and Title III.

Jason Branch, OCS superintendent stated in a press release, "Federally-funded title programs comprise an important part of our instructional effort. As these programs have continued to grow, it has become clear that we need to better streamline and focus our efforts in these areas. In Shannon Hammond we have found an energetic instructional leader with a great deal of relevant expertise and I am so pleased to welcome her to our leadership team. As with all other programs, with funding comes a great deal of responsibility and accountability, and having the right leader in place is obviously very important. To be able to fund this key position through federal dollars without impacting the local budget is a tremendous opportunity for our system and one we seized."

Since 2007, Hammond served Barrow County Schools as the federal programs and school improvement coordinator. In these positions she oversaw the school district's federal programs, served as the system-level facilitator of the district's response to intervention efforts and coordinated positive behavior interventions and support. She also directed after-school and instructional extension programs.
