Marijuana Found on Oconee Co. High Campus Twice This Week

Two students were found to be in possession of the drug, one with the intention to sell, according to reports on file at the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.

A 14-year-old student was turned over to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center after he was found to be in possession of about 18 grams of marijuana on campus Monday, authorities said.

Deputies were dispatched to the school after a "fair amount" of suspected marijuana was reportedly found to be in the teen's possession, according to an incident report at the . The student told deputies he bought the drug on Sunday and sold most of it, but kept some for personal use, the report noted. During a search, another bag of suspected marijuana sealed for sale and two orange-colored, oblong-shaped pills were found, according to the report.

The teen was taken into custody for violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act and later transported to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center, Chief Deputy Lee Weems said.Β  The case is pending in the juvenile court system.

On Tuesday, deputies returned to the school, this time because a 16-year-old student allegedly admitted to having a small quantity of marijuana.

Another student had notified school administrators that the teen had been seen with marijuana in the library, an incident report noted. When confronted, the teen reportedly showed deputies a Skoal can containing a green leafy substance. According to the report,Β  the teen at first said he found it in a drainpipe and then changed the story and said it came from his big brother, also a student at OCHS.

The teen's parents were consulted and the Department of Juvenile Justice was notified.Β  After required fingerprinting at the Sheriff's Office, the student was released to his parents.
