"On April 11, the approved the request to allow Barry Lollis, principal of North Oconee High School, to be released from his contract of employment with Oconee County Schools in order to transition to his new position as principal at Putnam County High School.  This will enable Mr. Lollis to participate in planning for the 2011-12 school year, including making staffing decisions at the school.  His last day at North Oconee will be Friday, April 29.

"On Monday, May 2, Philip Brown will take over the reins as principal of North Oconee High School.  As you know, the Board has already approved him for this position for the 2011-12 school year.  Here, too, Mr. Brown will be able to be involved in many of the important decisions that need to be made in preparation for next school year.  Mr. Brown will participate in end-of-year activities at North Oconee, including graduation.  He will also complete some duties at Oconee County Middle School.

"Also on May 2, Judy Marable will assume her new position at Oconee County Middle School.  The Board approved Mrs. Marable as principal for the 2011-12 school year.  There are no current plans to fill her position as assistant principal through the end of the year; however, central office administrative staff will fill in where needed to ensure orderly operations at Oconee Middle.  Mrs. Marable is in the process of interviewing candidates for the assistant principal position and will be making a recommendation in the coming weeks.

"Thank you for being supportive and flexible with these changes during this busy time of the school year."

No additional information was immediately available.

The Athens Banner-Herald reported last month that some parents and teachers had feared voicing opinions about Principal Lollis.
