"Canning Memories": Writing Workshop with Julie Cannon

Author Julie Cannon will lead "Canning Memories," a two-session workshop designed as an introduction to memoir writing for those who simply want to record their memories and for those who desire to use their memories to write autobiographical fiction. The goal of "Canning Memories" is to develop and refine the essential components of shaping raw personal experiences into a polished story. Class exercises and a short between-class assignment augment the learning curve.

The first day of this workshop will cover writing deeper by using the five senses, choosing your storyteller by experimenting with different points-of-view, simple ways to strengthen your prose and exercises in exploring childhood fears. The second day will focus on learning ways to turn real-life events and personal experience into sellable fiction, and will include an optional opportunity to read your work aloud to the class for feedback.
