Athens Academy Class of 2011 Graduates Awarded

The following students were presented with awards at ’s Upper School Honors Day in May:

James Waugh and Carey Stewart were presented with the Faculty Award for Excellence.  This award is presented to the members of the senior class who have demonstrated academic strength, commitment to learning, and overall excellence during their years at Athens Academy. It is the highest honor awarded by the faculty to a student for academic excellence. James Waugh is the son of Bob and Susan Waugh of Athens and will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Morehead-Cain Scholar.  Carey is the daughter of Greg and Robin Stewart of Farmington and will be attending the University of Virginia.

Ben Heery, Lauren Marbut, and Sydney Platek were presented with the Headmaster’s Award.  This award is presented each year by Headmaster Bob Chambers to students who, through the influence of character and unselfishness, have made significant contributions to the life of the school.  Ben is the son of Rusty and Ginger Heery of Athens and will be attending Virginia Tech.  Lauren Marbut is the daughter of Wendy Marbut and David Marbut, both of Athens; she will be attending the University of Georgia.  Sydney Platek is the daughter of Zack and Lesley Platek of Athens and will be attending the University of South Carolina.

Anne Lanier Gilbert, Kristin Lawson, and Daniel Mason received the Robert F. Marion Award.  This award is presented to seniors in recognition of their outstanding service to the school and community, as their actions reflect the selfless devotion to the ideals and philosophy of Athens Academy as manifest in the spirit of Robert F. Marion.  Anne Lanier is the daughter of Rosalind and Clay Gilbert of Athens and will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Kristin is the daughter of Hugh and Mildred Lawson of Athens and will be attending Georgia College & State University. Daniel Mason is the son of Lee and Lisa Mason of Athens and will be attending the University of Georgia.
