6 Recent Oconee Grads Named UGA Charter Scholars

They are among the top six to eight percent of entering first-year UGA students to earn the distinction and a $1,000 scholarship.

Six recent graduates of Oconee County schools are the recipients of a $1,000 UGA Charter Scholarship.

The award, funded by the University of Georgia Foundation, acknowledges the top six to eight percent of incoming freshmen with "stellar academic records, leadership and community involvement, and a respect for and commitment to intellectual, social and cultural diversity," according to a press release.

The scholarship is renewable for another three years of undergraduate study as long as certain academic standards are maintained.
