$3,000 Worth of School Supplies Donated Through 'Tools for School' Drive

"It's a stressful time for families, and this relieves some of that stress," director of Oconee Area Resource Council says.

With the start of a new school year comes the expense of backpacks, calculators, notebooks and other supplies. It's a financial burden that causes stress for some Oconee County families, according to Ann Hester, director of the Oconee Area Resource Council (OARC).

To ease the stress, Publix partnered with OARC for a "Tools for School" supply drive that generated more than $3,000 worth of donated items.

Superintendent Dr. Jason Branch thanked community members as he accepted the donation on Thursday, Aug. 15.

"Sometimes it's a hidden need in our community because people don't see it as readily as you see it in some other communities, but it's a need," he said.
