Williams: 'We've Got a Lot of Work to Do'

At a swearing-in ceremony Friday, Rep. Chuck Williams of State House District 113 said he looks forward to tackling issues at the State Capitol.

“This is just really, really a day that doesn’t seem real, quite honestly,” Georgia House Distict 113 Rep. Chuck Williams said moments after his swearing-in ceremony at the Friday. “We get to work immediately.”

Chief Judge Lawton Stephens of the Western Judicial Circuit administered the oath of office.

“It’s a great honor to be allowed to swear Chuck in,” he said.

Williams said there’s a lot of work to do and he’s “really excited about the opportunity to get started.”

He also announced he will serve on both the Higher Education and Natural Resources and Environment committees.

“With everything that’s going on in the state from a water standpoint, environmental standpoint, that was one of my top tier committee requests as well,” he said.

Feedback is already pouring in from constituents, something Williams said he encourages.

“We may not always agree, certainly we know that’s the case because there will be issues that will come before the General Assembly that everybody won’t be able to go home happy about,” he said.  “But I commit to you we will listen, we will communicate, we will talk, and that is the way we will operate as long as you elect us to represent you.”

Williams’ wife, Beth, held the Bible during the swearing-in ceremony.  She said she is very proud of her husband.

“I always knew he would run for office someday,” she said.

Williams, a Republican, beat Democrat Dan Matthews by 62.4 to 37.6 percent in a Runoff Election July 19.  The two were the in a June 21 Special Election to replace former , who is now chancellor of the University System of Georgia Williams will serve out Huckaby's remaining term, about a year and a half.

Georgia House District 113 includes all of Oconee County and parts of Clarke, Oglethorpe and Morgan.

The Georgia General Assembly will convene  Aug. 15  for a Special Session on redistricting.
