Tattoo and Body Piercing Ordinance Passes

Though there are no parlors currently located in Oconee County, the ordinance will be in place for the future, Chairman of the Oconee County Commissioners Melvin Davis said Tuesday.

An ordinance outlining rules and regulations for tattoo and body piecing establishments and operators is on the books in Oconee County.

Commissioners approved the ordinance after its second reading and a second public hearing on Tuesday.Β  There were no public comments.

There aren't currently any tattoo or body piercing parlors located in the county, but the ordinance will be in place in the event of future requests, Chairman Melvin Davis said.

The ordinance --adopted by the Health Department-- covers everything from permitting to hygiene requirements to court jurisdiction for enforcement and penalties.

"If followed, such standards should reduce the risk to the health and safety of all individuals performing and receiving these services," the ordinance states.

The Board held a first reading and public hearing on Dec. 20.Β  According to the minutes, no one from the public spoke at that hearing either.
