Safety Issues Delay Opening of Oconee Connector/Jennings Mill Parkway Extension

Sections of the new road may need to be re-striped, according to an Athens Banner-Herald report, and presently there isn't a proposed date for its opening.

Motorists will have to wait a little longer before they can travel on the new Oconee Connector/Jennings Mill Parkway Extention.

The road was originally , but the opening was pushed back to January because of and the need for striping and other details to be completed, officials noted in previous reports.

It's mid-February and the road remains closed.

Oconee County Public Works Director Emil Beshara told the Athens Banner-Herald in an article Wednesday that state and county leaders want to make sure that the road is safe, and sections of reflective striping currently don't meet safety standards for nighttime driving.

"Hopefully, they’ll come to a quick resolution on it,” he told the newspaper.
