Rep. Broun Holds Informational Coffee in Watkinsville

Citizens of Georgia’s 10th district convened at a local coffee shop to voice their political concerns at Rep. Paul Broun’s first “Coffee With the Congressman.”

“I’m eager to hear from everybody no matter what your political persuasion,” Broun said. “People of any culture, any background— I’m eager to hear from the people.”

The U.S. congressman answered questions from concerned citizens over a cup of coffee at Oconee County’s Jittery Joe on Greensboro Highway. Broun addressed a variety of local concerns including Obamacare and immigration.

“It all comes back to a government that is too big and too intrusive,’ Broun said. “Until we secure the border, nothing else matters.

Broun also introduced recent legislation that he is working on including his Patient Option Act, which he introduced to President Obama as a “solution to Obamacare to make healthcare cheaper to all Americans.”  Broun also addressed recent events including Edward Snowden and the NSA.

“We’ve got to answers first,” Broun said. “I’m extremely concerned about the federal government looking at your emails and phone records. Whether Snowden is a hero or a traitor, I don’t know. We’ve got to get the answers first. If he’s a whistleblower and the government is doing something unconstitutional he’s a hero, if not and it’s within it’s scope then he’s a traitor. But we have got to get answers first to make that decision.”

Congressman Broun encouraged his constituents to write letters to his office despite one citizen’s complaint that he never received a response.
