Qualifying Period Opens for State House Seat

Candidates may qualify in the Elections Division of the Office of Secretary of State in Atlanta through Wednesday at noon.

Qualifying is now underway for the June 21 special election to fill the Georgia House 113th District seat. 

As of 2 p.m. on Monday, and had paid the $400 fee and officially qualified.  Last week  also announced her intention to qualify.  Qualifying runs through noon on Wednesday, May 18.

Though the special election is non-partisan, both Alexander and Williams have listed their political affiliations as Republican.

Voters must be registered by May 23 in order to cast ballots.  If you are unsure about your registration status or polling location, visit My Voter Page.

Absentee ballots may be requested from the Oconee County Board of Elections Office until June 17 and must be returned to by the close of the polls at 7 p.m. on Election Day.

If needed, a run-off election will take place on July 19.

The 113th House District includes all of Oconee, Southern Clarke, and portions of Oglethorpe and Morgan counties.
