New Watkinsville Business to Create 20-30 Jobs

Peak Industries, LLC, an electrical contractor, was one of four businesses granted licenses at the Watkinsville City Council meeting last week.

A new business coming to Watkinsville is expected to create 20-30 jobs for area electricians.

Don Phillips told Watkinsville City Council last week Peak Industries, LLC will hire electricians for primarily industrial services. The business will be located at 1120 Industrial Drive.

Mayor Joe Walter said it was "wonderful news."

Council also granted business licenses to Straight Line Surveying, Inc, a land surveying firm in a home office, and Green Tree Metals, a metal roofing and siding business at 1401 Greensboro Highway, Building 1.

at 42 Greensboro Highway is currently undergoing renovations, but the new owners' request for a business license was approved at the meeting.Β  The owners also requested a Beer and Wine retail license, which was approved contingent upon proof of liability insurance, completion of application, and code inspection.

In other business, council:

  • Approved a nuisance ordinance covering the enforcement for removing overgrown weeds and vegetation.
  • Heard from engineer Mark Campbell about the required annual stormwater training for city council members.
  • Approved a request from a representative of the Laura Rutherford Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in Watkinsville. The group asked the city donate a small piece of land for a monument dedicated to two Oconee County men from the Civil War era. Look for more details in an upcoming article.
  • Learned the Watkinsville police department issued a total of 103 citations last month, 71 of which were for speeding.

Correction: The chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy that addressed council was misidentified.Β  The name has been corrected.
