Huckaby Picked As Chancellor

Former Rep. Hank Huckaby will begin his duties as the 12th chancellor of the University System of Georgia on July 1.

Hank Huckaby has been named the next chancellor for the University System of Georgia.  The Board of Regents made the official announcement Friday morning following a special meeting via telephone conference.  He was named the only two weeks ago.

“I am especially appreciative of and honored by the action of the Board of Regents," Huckaby said in a news release. "I pledge to them my total support and commitment as together we work to meet the challenges and opportunities for the University System."

Huckaby will officially take the reins as the 12th chancellor on July 1.  Chancellor Erroll Davis Jr. retires on June 30.

Last week Huckaby resigned his seat in the Georgia House of Representatives, prompting Gov. Deal to call for a special election to fill House District 113, which Secretary of State Brian Kemp .
