Gilland Eyes Board of Commissioners for the Second Time

UGA employee Tammy Gilland plans to run for Post 4.

Tammy Gilland has announced her intention to run for a seat on the Oconee County Board of Commissioners.

The UGA Chief of Staff and Senior Director of Development first ran in 2010 for Post 3 and lost to Margaret Hale.  Now she's taking a shot at Post 4, which will be vacant.  Chuck Horton, who currently occupies the post, told the ABH in November of 2010 he was interested in the position of chairman.

“During my 2010 campaign, I had the opportunity to meet and listen to the citizens of Oconee County," Gilland said in a released statement. " I am still eager to offer my service on the Commission to encourage economic development and to provide Oconee County residents with the quality of services they expect and deserve."

And retired Army sergeant major Mark Saxon spoke to the Enterprise last week, saying "I just feel it's the right time to commit" when announcing he will run for the seat.
