Deal Appoints Haggard to Superior Court

Patrick Haggard fills the vacancy left by Judge Steve Jones in the 10th District Western Judicial Circuit.

was named the new Western Circuit Superior Court Judge, a representative from the Governor's Office confirmed shortly after 4:30 p.m..

Jen Talaber, communications specialist for the Governor's Office, said statements from Gov. Nathan Deal will most likely be released Wednesday.

Haggard fills a vacancy left after was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve at a federal level in the U.S. Northern District of Georgia's Atlanta division. Jones' seat had been vacant since his resignation March 2, during which time several senior judges – semi-retired judges who are available to pick up cases when necessary – stepped in.

Haggard serves as the Winterville Municipal Court Judge and was one of out of 15 applicants to be considered for the position.

Haggard will serve out the rest of Jones' term, then have to run for re-election to remain at the position.
