Deadline to Register to Vote in Georgia Primary is Today

Early voting begins on Feb. 13.

Feb. 6 is the deadline to register to vote in the Georgia Presidential Primary. The Primary is March 6, 2012.

You can also register to vote online through the Georgia Secretary of State office. 

To register to vote you must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a legal resident of the county
  • Be at least 171/2 years of age to register and 18 years of age to vote
  • Not be serving a sentence for conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude
  • Have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge

In the Republican race, the following names will appear on the ballot:*

  • Michele Bachmann
  • Newt Gingrich
  • Jon Huntsman
  • Gary Johnson
  • Ron Paul
  • Rick Perry
  • Buddy Roemer
  • Mitt Romney
  • Rick Santorum

* Candidates' names appear on the ballot regardless of having dropped out of the race, unless candidates formally request that their names be removed. Herman Cain, for example, is not listed on the ballot. Notification was sent to remove his name, officials said.

The following comes from an announcement from the Oconee County Board of Elections and Registration:

Early voting will begin on Feb 13. Voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday through March 2 in the Board of Elections office at 10 Court Street in Watkinsville.  Saturday Voting will be held on February 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  There will be NO VOTING on Monday, March 5, 2012 and regular voting will take place at your precinct's polling place on Tuesday, March 6.  NO VOTING will take place on election day at the Board of Elections office - you must visit your precinct.
