Charles Ivie Seeking Second Term as Watkinsville Mayor

"I want to continue to move Watkinsville ahead in these tough economic times," he says.

Charles Ivie says he's liked his time as mayor of Watkinsville so much that he's hoping to stay on the job. But just don't call it that.

"Because I don't consider this to be a job," Ivie said. "This is a place that I come to enjoy every moment of it."

Ivie was first elected in Nov. 2011 and took office that following January, serving on the same council as he had decades before as a councilman.

"I am seeking re-election because I want to continue to move Watkinsville ahead in these tough economic times," he stated in a news release. "I would also like to see the sewer extension in the Industrial Park and the Streetcape II project come to fruition."

The city election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. Along with the mayor's post, council posts 1 and 2 will appear on the ballot.

Currently, Brian Brodrick serves at post 1. Connie Massey won a special election for Henry Norman's post 2 seat last November.

According to an article in the Oconee Enterprise, the city's elections will now be handled by the county's Board of Elections, and, in lieu of paper ballots, votes will be cast on electronic voting machines.
