Can Cain Do It?

Georgia businessman Herman Cain has moved up in the polls, joining the top tier of GOP primary presidential candidates, after his strong win in the Florida Straw Poll last week.

CNN Politics is reporting that Georgia businessman and primary presidential candidate . Cain garnered 37 percent, more than double the next candidate who, at 15 percent was Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

According to a Fox News national poll, Cain, at 17 percent, is now just two points behind Perry's 19 percent and six points behind the leader, former Masachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who has 23 percent. These are within the polls sampling error.

The poll was conducted among likely primary voters and indicates a gain of 11 points for Cain, a former Godfather’s Pizza CEO and radio talk show host. A poll by CNN/ORC International also shows a gain for Cain, but still has Perry leading the GOP field. Political pundits, however, continue to appear uncertain about Cain maintaining this momentum or being able to beat President Barack Obama in the General Election next year.  A new Rasmussen Poll, conducted by a national telephone survey of likely U.S. voters, has Obama beating Cain 39 to 34 percent in a head-to-head matchup with 14 saying they would go with some other candidate and 14 percent still undecided.
