Broun Says He's Focused on the Economy, Job Creation

US Congressman Paul Broun made a campaign stop at Watkinsville's Harris Shoals Park Monday.

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun is on the campaign trail this week, of the 10th Congressional district.

On Monday at , he shook hands with about two dozen supporters, including Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry and Commissioner Chuck Horton.

Jumpstarting the economy by repealing health care laws and creating jobs remain his top priorities, Broun said.

"That means repealing Obamacare and replacing it with something such as my Patient Option Act.  The patient OPTION Act will , provide coverage for all Americans, and will save Medicare from going broke," he said.  "It'll stop what we have now in the president's plan, which is going to be a destroyer. It's going to destroy our jobs.  It's going to destroy our economy.  It's going to destroy the doctor-patient relationship.  It's going to even destroy the quality of health care and destroy our freedom."

Broun also touted his JOBS (Jumpstarting Our Business Sector) Act -- HR 660 -- which he says leaves dollars in the hands of employers by eliminating taxes on corporations and capital gains so they can expand their businesses and add employees.

"We need to have policy that is going to create an environment for our job producers and get our economy going," he said.

Broun will face off against challenger , a businessman and retired Army officer from Milledgeville, in the July 31 Republican primary.  Oconee County Observations reported Simpson as saying Broun is ".

And other challengers may emerge this week.  Qualifying takes place May 23-25.

Update: Earlier in the year, the Athens Banner-Herald reported Democrat  Tim Riley of Athens was considering challenging Broun, but an article Tuesday stated he'll instead run for state Senate.

Mr. Riley has decided to run for the State Senate or House I believe. If only those same tired supporters turned out for this event, I would say there is a distinct lack of enthusiasm for Dr. Broun in his home county

Thanks, Dan. I see that's in the latest article about elections in the ABH. I've updated the article.

Imagine that! A mockery of a representative calling an issue a mockery! How much of his outrageousRead More salary and benefit package is he willing to give up? And what he calls fact is seriously distorted information. Good leaders don't run and hide from an issue and then blame others for their shortcomings... I realize good leaders are hard to find.... but, why do we continue to tolerate mediocrity? A vacant seat would be just as effective as this congressman... actually, as I think about it, probably more effective.
