Broun Reacts to June Unemployment Figures

Congressman Paul Broun points to"unimaginable debt" as cause for 9.2 percent unemployment in June.

Unemployment rose one-tenth of a percent from 9.1 percent in May to 9.2 percent in June, according to data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday.

In response to news from the United States Department of Labor, 10th District U.S. Congressman Paul Broun (R-Ga.) issued the following statement:

β€œThis is a clear indication that the unimaginable level of debt in America is already damaging our economy and locking us in this recession. We cannot allow the big-spending, big-government policies of this Administration to continue holding American businesses hostage.

"I urge my colleagues to support my bill to lower the debt ceiling, HR 2409, so that we can finally start to escape the downwards spiral of government spending and massive debt. Only then can we create jobs and get America going back in the right direction.”

The National Conference of State Legislatures has a chart of unemployment rates by month on the organization's website.
