Athens Airport Control Tower to Close April 21

The FAA announced the date when the tower will close because of federal budget cuts. The airport will continue to operate.

Athens-Ben Epps Airport's tower will cease operations on April 21st.

Earlier in March, the Federal Aviation Administration announced the Athens airport tower will be one of the 149 to close, starting April 7th.

The towers at Kennesaw's McCollum Field and the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport in Albany are also set to close on May 5th. Sunday, May 5th will be the last day of operations for the control tower at Briscoe Field in Lawrenceville.

The closures are in an attempt to cut $637 million from the FAA's budget. On Wednesday, the FAA released a list of closure dates for the airports.

Even with the tower at Ben Epps and Briscoe Field closing, the airports will remain open and operating.
