Witnesses Tell Watkinsville Police Boys Tried to Damage Park Pavilion

Two juveniles were seen attempting to damage the new pavilion at late in the afternoon on Thursday, May 24, according to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon's weekly news release. When park patrons confronted the boys, they reportedly ran away. Police were later able to locate the boys at a VFW Drive address and they were turned over to parents and charges are pending, he said.

O'Dillon recapped some of the other incidents that police responded to during the week ending on May 27:

• Just before 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, May 24, police and medical units responded to South Main Street at Dooley Street after a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero pulled into the path of a southbound 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. Both drivers suffered minor injuries. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage. The 91 year old driver of the Oldsmobile was charged with failing to yield to the right of way.

• The owner of Watkinsville Mini Storage on Greensboro Highway contacted police around 5 p.m. on May 24 after he discovered damage done to the outside of several units. A person on the property had seen a neighbor damaging the metal siding. The neighbor, David Lamar Mullinax, 25, of 107-A McRee Street, was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property. 

• Three people were injured after a 2006 Dodge Caravan was hit from behind by a 1998 Honda CRV on Experiment Station Road at North Main Street around 6:45 p.m. May 24. There were minor injuries and  damage reported. A 26-year-old Watkinsville man was charged with following too closely.

• At 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, police were called to a on-going domestic situation at a Hight Drive address. Officers stood by while one person gathered some belongings and moved out of the residence.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 31 calls within city limits between Monday, May 21 through Sunday, May 27.
