Watkinsville Resident and Morgan County Middle School Teacher Charged with Child Molestation

Laura Dyar, 27, of Watkinsville was arrested on Monday in Morgan County and charged with child molestation, enticing a minor, and sexual assault.

A Morgan County Middle School teacher, 27-year-old Laura Dyar of Watkinsville, has been arrested and charged with one count of child molestation, one count of enticing a minor, and one count of sexual assault, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Dyar, who turned herself in on Monday, was identified as the victim's teacher, according to a GBI news release.

The GBI's Milledgeville office conducted an investigation alongside the Madison Police Department and the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, Agent Tom Davis said.

Also arrested was the student’s legal guardian, a Madison woman.  The woman was charged with two counts of theft by extortion and one count of criminal intent to commit theft by extortion, the news release stated.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.

Update: Patch has removed the name of the legal guardian to protect the identity of the victim.
