Watkinsville Police: Wrecks on Main Street

The information in this story comes from the Watkinsville Police Department. An arrest isn't the same as a conviction.

On Wednesday evening, January 1, at 6:50, a 1999 Honda Civic was attempting to cross Main Street, from Harden Hill Road, when it was struck by a 1999 Buick LeSabre, that was attempting to exit Whitehall Road onto Main Street.  Both vehicles had a green traffic signal. No one was injured.  Claire Phillips, 47, of Bishop, was cited for FAILURE TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY WHILE TURNING LEFT. 

At 11:28 a.m. on Thursday, January 2nd, a motorist told police that he had been traveling southward on Main Street in his Chevrolet pick-up when a blue Dodge Dakota turned right off Experiment Station Road and drove into the side of his truck. The driver of the Dodge Dakota never stopped and drove away from the scene. The victim was able to get a description of the Dodge and its driver.  The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.

On Thursday. January 2nd, at 2:15 p.m., a 2006 Toyota Sequoia stopped on Main Street, at School Street, to allow pedestrians to cross the street in the marked crosswalk.  The Toyota was then struck from behind by a 2006 Ford F-150 , causing extensive damage to both vehicles. No one was injured. Kirklyn L. Dixon, 46, of Monroe, was charged with FOLLOWING TOO CLOSELY.

In addition, during the week ending Sunday January 5, the Watkinsville Police Department responded to twenty-nine (29) calls for service inside the City.
