Watkinsville Police: Three Fender-benders in One Day the Result of Following Too Closely

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga., Police Department. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

In his weekly press release, Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped the following incidents that took place during the week ending on Sunday, May 6.

  • At Β 9:20 Tuesday morning, May 1, the driver of a 2002 Kia Optima struck the back of a 2010 Toyota Yaris on Whitehall Road at Third Street. No one was injured. A 26-year-old Athens man was charged with following too closely.
  • A 1998 Honda Accord was hit from behind by a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt on North Main Street at Bunny Hop Trail on Tuesday, May 1 around 1:30 p.m. Neither driver was injured. A 25-year-old Watkinsville woman was charged with following too closely.
  • Tuesday, May 1 at 5:37 p.m. police were called to Experiment Station Road at North Main Street after a 1997 Mercedes was bumped from behind by a 2012 Ford Fusion. No one was injured. A 37-year-old Watkinsville man was charged with following too closely.
  • A Sunday morning traffic stop resulted in charges filed against a Barrow County woman. At 3:24 a.m., police watched as a 2002 Mercury Cougar drove across the double yellow center line on Harden Hill Road. After failing sobriety testing, a 20-year-old Bethlehem woman was charged with DUI and improper lane usage.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 29 calls within city limits between Monday, April 30 through Sunday, May 6.
